It began when Fount magazine from Berlin started following me on instagram and I saw they had a ‘call for entries’ thing going on. There were two rounds; in round one creatives from all over the world made a visual work on A3 about the idea of failing to start something new. I participated in round two where I had to make my own interpretation of a work from round one. The work I got was from Barbara Janczak. It was a very digital looking composition, trying to look punk, with prominent black dots on yellow surfaces.
So I only took the idea of black dots on yellow and worked on different directions. One where I bought a yellow sweater and burned and spray painted black dots on it. Another where I just drew yellow things which have black dots, like bananas or a yellow ladybug. After visiting an exposition of Isa Genzken I threw all directions I was working on together. Satisfied with this result and even more satisfied with this way of working I continued and made a series of images. This month I’m opening my first exposition showing these works in Amsterdam.
Why do you deserve to win?
I don’t deserve to win, but these images do.
