The brief was to refresh and develop a new look and feel for the 2017 Conservation Lab event, a festival like conference bringing the best and brightest minds involved in animal and environmental conservation within the tourism industry. In previous years the event was branded in a very corporate visual style that did not encourage delegates to engage in the un-conference format of the event. I was asked to provide a refreshed look and design a brand experience that reflected the informal nature of the Spier Wine Farm venue, encourage delegates to engage with the format and also address the serious tone of the event. I achieved this with the use of custom lettering, calligraphy and illustrations along with organic and rustic textures that were applied to branding, signage, collateral, digital communications, social media and the overall look of the event.
Why do you deserve to win?
This project is close to my heart as some of my conservation heroes were attending. It was an honour to work on a project where so many people could come together to talk about causes that they are so passionate about. The feedback from delegates and the client was that it was the best show to date and the branding made them feel a part of a community that was honest, genuine and down to earth, which really made all the hardworking worth it.
