Building on the success of Blue Planet (2001), BBC Worldwide wanted a press pack that would showcase the making of Blue Planet II. This would include new developments in UHD camera technology and underwater photography, the thousands of hours of filming and research, the skills, knowledge and the sheer tenacity of the team to deliver the most comprehensive series of the world’s oceans ever.
I was given a very open brief, which was to develop what had been produced 16 years ago, so every element of design, typography, choice of photography and colour palette was my remit.
The press pack was translated into multiple languages and presented to global media owners before the screening of the series. This enabled BBC Worldwide to sell the series to over 240 territories.
Why do you deserve to win?
I am proud to have had the opportunity and thoroughly enjoyed working with the team on such a prestigious project, which was very well received not only by the team but by the wider global audience.
BBC Worldwide told me that they received so many compliments on my design and that and Hans Zimmer, the series composer, had requested additional copies for his family, and Sir David Attenborough himself commented on how beautiful it was!
