I’ve been working with BrightonSEO for a few years now, designing the look and feel of their marketing material and exhibition graphics. Every six months they host a new SEO conference and training event at the Brighton Centre and I create a new graphic ‘theme’ to be translated through posters, t-shirts, beverage packaging and much more.
This is the campaign I created for April 2018’s event, which includes a beer can design named ‘Site Crasher’. The tickets were so popular for this bi-annual event that their web platform crashed. From that, I was inspired to create a ‘glitched’ background and logo design for the can, reminiscent of old-school video games and TV noise.
It was important to stay contemporary, fun, and eye catching, because the event is centred on the theme of SEO, and the material needed to be visually appealing enough to end up being shared on social media. I therefor created a ‘tattoo style’ branded illustration to feature on goodie bags, t-shirts, mugs and stickers, in line with the humorous tone of voice of the company.
Why do you deserve to win?
I’m particularly pleased with this work because as a freelancer, it can be hard to be self-motivated 100% of the time. But when you get to know a client well, and they give you free reign to come up with something new and different every time, I think it’s hugely inspiring. When they put their trust in you to visualise what works for their audience, you can have fun!
It’s great to be able to work on an entire campaign, from large scale, visualising how things will look in a large space in relation with people, to designing smaller printed items. So, I guess I’m proud of being able to create a cohesive group of design elements that work together, aesthetically and functionally.
