Central Security at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam.
“Schiphol’s number of flight movements and the size of modern aircraft are increasing, as is the number of passengers they carry. In the new situation there will be only five ‘security filters’. The new design makes security control both more efficient and more comfortable.”
For this project a collaboration between three companies was established. Bsquared was responsible for the design of the new Security Lane and additional process products. Scarabee for engineering and building the Security Lane and MV Architects designed the look and feel of the new security area. Bsquared and Scarabee redesigned the security process into 4 clear steps. First step is assign target groups, second step is a buffer zone with information for preparation, after this step the screening will take place. And at last a reclaim and care-zone.
I had the opportunity to join this collaboration, as I have worked with Bsquared on other Airport designs. Parallel I joined MV Architects for detail designing the look and feel. My role in this innovative co-creation was on one side designing process products and on the other side apply the new approach of materials in this airport environment.
Why do you deserve to win?
Because of my ability to switch between overall thinking and detail designing, working as an individual or working in a team, leading teams or working on technical drawings, making toolboxes or implemented them, I am able to work on variety of projects such as hospitality projects, health care, airports, offices and public libraries. As a freelancer I can work in multiple roles, depends what is needed for the project and the team. During this project I worked on both sides of the table, but never loose the purpose of the assignment or my role for each client. I’m very proud that I had the opportunity to be a part of this innovative project and collaboration.
For me, airports a very interesting, because of all the people who travel, all the information and all the emotions. With the right partners and knowledge a good airport design will lead you to your destination and ensure less stress.
